Interview Barbara Edwards

by

Gini Wilson

Hi Barbara, Wings has asked me to send you a questionaire. I can’t say that the questions are original, but I am interested in the answers as different things work for different writers.

1. Since I don't know the name of your book, as yet, would you please tell us the genre?

Another Love is a historical romance set in 1893

2. What is the driving force behind your desire to write?

Writing is not a hobby, its an obsession. If I don't write I get withdrawal symptoms like headaches, irritability, a craving for junk food and my wrists cramp. (G)

3. How have events in your life colored your prose?

If they ever did a landscape map of my life, it would look like the Himalayan Mountains. The heights and depths have matured me and show in the characters and plots of my stories.

4. Do you create your characters, or do they simply evolve with the story?

My characters become known to me like friends. They reveal themselves over time. Some I get to know and love a lot faster, but others stay with me and I swear I would recognize them if I ever saw them on the street.

5. Do you outline your characters? And if so, do you do it before or after they "come on the scene" in your story?

Oh no, they introduce themselves. And constantly surprise me.

6. Do you outline your plot or does it develop as you write?

I start with a beginning and end. I sketch in a middle but the complete plot developes as I write.

7. With what authors, if any, do you dream of being mentioned in the same breath by an avid reader?

Jayne Anne Krentz, Sandra Brown, Linda Howard or a hundred others I admire.

8. Do you have other works published?

Annie's Heart, another historical romance is due to be released by Wings in April. Rachel's Rescue, a romantic suspense, doesn't have a date yet.

9. Do you have other stories/manuscripts in the works, or finished and waiting? If so, tell us more. If not, what do you think you’ like to tackle next?

I've finished another romantic suspense, Shadow on the Moon. It has been entered in the RWA Golden Heart and I have it at several places for consideration.

10. If the Blue Fairy showed up with her magic wand, what wish would you ask to transform your art at this point in your writing career?

I'd wish for more time to write.

11. What brought you to Wings?

I knew the publishers and respected their expertise in the field.

Whatever it was, welcome aboard. Thanks for introducing yourself. Hope to see much more of you in print.
