Interview Tamia Dawn Osburn

Laurel Lamperd
1. Congratulations on writing the last book in the Wiccan Alliance series, Tami. How do you feel about The Goddess being the last book? Are you able to let go of the characters, which must have been a big part of your life for a long time?
The Characters in The Wiccan/Alliance series have been a big part of my life and I am saddened to see them go. When I first started writing The Warlock I never really intended for it to be a series, it just sorted of happened that way. I did start writing the Not Without You before I even finished The Warlock, then The Warrior happened because I felt May should have her own story. Then on and on it went. I guess each of the characters needed a story of their own and The Goddess is the last story.
2. You said in one of your interviews you wrote seven books for the Wiccan/Alliance series. Did you plan the next book after finishing the previous one or do you have an overall plan for the series before you begin?
I never really planned on a long series when I started The Warlock but it ended up that way. I didn't think it would take seven stories to have a complete series.
3. When reading Sci-Fi and Fantasy, I’m always amazed at the clear world, which they present. Do you dream about these other worlds and the characters who inhabit them or do they come into being as you write?
Most of the time it's the characters who tell me what they want for their world. Sometimes I do dream about what kind of world I would like to live in. VBG.
4. Now The Goddess completes the Wiccan/Alliance series, can you give the reader a peep into your next book?
Right now, I think it's time for Tamia Dawn Osburn to retire. She had a long and eventful flight through the stars and it's time for her to come back to Earth.
5. You say you have been writing now for five years. You must set yourself a strict writing regime. I counted twelve books on the Wings-Press website. Can you tell the reader about your writing day?
My writing day is when hubby and the kids are away, then I spend the entire day writing. When everyone is home... well I don't get much done. Now my daughter is trying her hand at writing and she's only 11 and she actually wrote her first child's book and is currently working on her sequel. I am so proud of her.
6. Your twelve Wings-Press books are all Futuristic/Sci-Fi. What attracts you to writing in this genre? Do you think you will try another genre?
I was brought up with Sci-fi and love reading the genre. I did write a paranormal ghost story in our time and currently writing another one which I'll be using my real name. I do have some stories lined up that I'm thinking about so we'll see what happens then.
7. When you began writing novels five years ago, did you enroll in a writing course, join a writing group, study books on writing or did you just sit down and write?
I was in a critique group and they helped a lot and I really needed it at the time since I had no idea what I was doing. I do need to give credit due to one lady in particular and she kept pushing me to write that next chapter and she's a huge fan of mine. So Polly: THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I wouldn't have gotten this far without you.
8. What do you think about writing courses, writing groups and books on writing in general?
They help and if you sit down and read the books, and listen, you'll learn a lot.
9. Looking back, would you have done anything different when you began writing?
I don't think I'd do anything different. I love what I do and keeping those characters in line when they want to do something else.
10. What advice do you have for the beginning writer who is interested in writing a Futuristic Sci-Fi novel.
Listen to what the characters tell you. It may not be easy but it really is. Imagine what kind of world you would like to live in if you were that character and build it from there. Most of all, use your imagination and what kind of technology you would like to have and make it real. If you have to watch the TV shows and movies or read on the genre, you'll learn a lot. Research on some technology because what you may dream about may become a reality. If in doubt, ask. I'm sure someone out there may have the answers you seek.
