This is a heart wrenching story and one, which most people would rather sweep under the rug. I can almost hear the people saying, things like this do not happen in my town. People like Lester Watkins do exist and no amount of sugar coating can make them go away. This is a must read and an eye-opener. After reading this book, I doubt anyone can ever turn their backs on the Icey May’s of this world again.

Kowanda Stroud lives in Chandler, Oklahoma.
She was raised in a small southwestern Oklahoma town and her books are based loosely on events that happened in the 1950’s while growing up there.
She married her high school sweetheart and they have been married for 43 years. They have two daughters, which are both school teachers, and have seven grandchildren. Her older grandchildren like to read about that simple lifestyle and Kowanda hopes that her next book about her teenage years won’t shock them too much.
Kowanda is also an artist.
