This story, with its spunky heroine, is reminiscent of True Grit by Charlie Portis, or Paper Moon by Joe David Brown. Lugene Canfield and her brother, Harley, think living with their stepfather is unbearable, but when they run away to New Orleans they find the world a harsh place for a couple of teenagers. However, Lugene's optimism is justified when they find people who are willing to help them. If you like adventure and surprises on every page, then Song of the Sparrow is the book for you.
