Kellman, J. A.

Write what you know. That’s what everyone says, but the life of retired professor living with her husband and two cats is hardly a source of excitement and adventure.

Then it hit me, my early research in Guatemala, my hours of studying pre-Columbian Maya culture and contemporary Maya people, archaeology, and history were something I knew. The rest of The Snake is similarly grounded in what I know: the town where I have lived for over twenty years is a loose template for Big Grove, for example, but the friends in Burr Oaks, the drug lords, the snake, and the story itself are pure fiction. They come alive in The Snake, though, and can be visited whenever you wish.
